XR technologies at Our Future Fest on Governor's Island

Governor's Island may seem like a sleepy getaway minutes away from the city, but this week it was buzzing with positive energy as visitors learned about the the bold leadership NYC is showing in climate action. Hosted by Climate Reality's NYC Metro Chapter, the Human Impacts Institute, and the Governor's Island Trust, this one day festival included art exhibitions and musical performances, presentations and panels by climate leaders, and a series of tables and tents where you could learn how to take action today in your own community.

Did you know, that NYC was the first city to submit a Voluntary Local Report about the progress of their SDG implementation to the United Nations? They also released a bold plan in 2015 called the ONE NYC plan, in which they aim to target inequalities, tackle climate change, and strengthen democracy and justice for all. This plan has since transformed into the ONE NYC 2050 plan, which is in its essence NYC's Green New Deal Plan. Combined with bold policy measures to bolster it, such as the Climate Mobilization Act, which will reduce NYC's building emissions, NYC has shown political will, and ability to tackle the problems of the future.

For the Our Future Fest, Overview Collective hosted a series of activations at the "House of Solutions" alongside our fellow Human Impacts Institute Residents. These included the screening "Pearls of New York", the "Sunken City" climate escape room, and presentations from the winning teams of the "Stories of the Future NYC" Creathon.

We also had a visit from the World Bank #Connect4Climate's Youth takeover team, who experienced the VR, escape room, and met the StrikAR team.
